Why I'm going for the Canon RP instead of the High-End Canon EOS R

I recently just made the decision of upgrading to the Canon EOS RP from my ancient DSLR, but why not choose the Canon EOS R? I'm about to tell you, so stay tuned!

It's pretty much a mathematical equation, price difference compared to the features lost, and there's a massive price gap ($800-1000) between the R and RP, but not a lot of features that get chopped.

On the RP, you're getting the same image processor, same autofocus and same Canon RF lens mount. The RP is also a full-frame sensor, so even that stays the same. The higher end R just has a better resolution, and by only 4 megapixels. In reality, 4 mp's isn't going to make much of a difference, for photographers, I'll understand if you do prints, but for videographers, you still have the same video capabilities.

The RP is also smaller and more compact which basically makes it a portable power-house. The RP is not by any means a bad camera, just looking at the specs, you know the camera is amazing. It has a 26 mega-pixel full frame sensor which is more than enough for high-quality prints and also carries Canon's amazingly accurate and speedy Dual-Pixel AF.

Here's the list of features that make this camera amazing:

- Great price

- Eye and Face AF tracking

- 4k video upto 24fps and 1080p upto 60fps

- Fully Articulating 3" touch screen.

- Manual Focus Peaking (really important for non-AF lenses)

- High-res photos

- In body time-lapse

For those vloggers out there, the articulating screen will streamline your filming process 10 fold. You can make sure that there isn't an error or that the autofocus is correct. Then about the manual focus peaking, if you've found that Canon's RF lens selection is limited and expensive, you might have gone and gotten a third party lens, but it might not have AF motors. Manual focus peaking will allow you to know that your subject is perfectly in focus.

I shoot lots of video, and the 4k functionality and eye AF in 1080p is very important to me. With the 1080p 60fps, you can get smooth, buttery slow-mo b-roll shots that look professional and very clean.

In general, I feel that this portable power house camera body combined with it's low price compared the R is my main reason for choosing it over it's big bro.
