3 Reasons Why to Use Affinity Photo Instead of Photoshop

Affinity Photo is another professional photo editing software run by Serif that is very similar to photoshop and lightroom from Adobe. In this post, I'm going to give you 3 reasons why and why you shouldn't get Affinity Photo.

1. Lots of tools and capabilities

Affinity Photo has plenty of tools and can do everyone you can possibly imagine- you can commodore photos, remove backgrounds, color grading and more. I have never run into a problem where I can’t do something for a client or project. In fact, almost every time I use the software, I find some new function or tool or a better way to do something.

2. Interface and Ease of Use

One of the best parts of Affinity Photo is its interface. While it is very similar to photoshop, it is easy to navigate and use. You can customize pretty much everything when it comes to the layout mod the tools. Another plus is that the tool bar icons are colored which makes is way easier to distinguish the tools compared the the dark grey icons of photoshop. I also feel that it makes the layout more pleasing to look at.

Everything is also spaced out and organized really well because Serif divided the tools into five ‘persona’ each serving a separate purpose while photoshop is squashed into one space that is very cluttered and you have to scroll to see your tolls.

There’s a section for distorting images, developing RAW photos to get a flatter image with more detail in highlight/shadows to work with from the beginning (works with JPEG as well), dynamic range mapping and a general photo editing/color grading where you will be for most of your post production process. There’s also a export section for more precise exports but I’ve never used it and I doubt you’ll need it either.

3. Pricing

Affinity photo by far has a way better pricing plan than the Adobe softwares. Whereas adobe has a monthly subscription plan, affinity photo has a one time price which means if you do the math, you can save hundreds over multiple years of use. And since you get basically the same features, affinity photo is way better for those on a budget.

My final verdict on Affinity Photo is that it's pretty much the same compared to photoshop and lightroom because you can do everything you'd ever actually need to do. And then with the better pricing, AP is way better.
