Is the M50 Mark II Really Worth It?

So as you probably know, Canon just released the successor to the famous canon m50 widely used among vloggers and videographers. The m50 mark II comes with new updates, but the original's price is now lower which is great if you want to buy it second hand.

The M50 series is mainly for vloggers as it has amazing video and the fully articulating touchscreen makes blogging even easier. Both the original and new camera have 4K video capability, albeit the quite annoying crop factor.

The Canon M50 Mk II comes with very few updates to the original for example the ability to record video in portrait orientation and the better auto focus. It also has various interface improvements such as the ability to touch the screen to focus on that specific area and streamlined compatibility for live streaming on YouTube and Zoom (and some other platforms) The new camera still doesn't support dual pixel autofocus just like it's predecessor so no upgrades there as well.

Some of the specs we hoped would get upgraded such as the sensor resolution or the image processor remain the same. The new camera features the same old Canon Digic 8 processor and the same continuous shooting speed.

There doesn't look like there were any physical changes which means they could've just added all this via a firmware update which is very disappointing. Now, if you really want these minor updates, you'll have to buy a brand new body which is basically an extreme waste of money. I would suggest buying yourself a better lens or other gear if you already have the M50.

Now keeping all that in mind, I personally recommend you go with the original as

it was and still is an amazing camera especially since that amazing price from before just got better. For those of you that already have the original, do NOT upgrade, just buy better gear. For those of you that don't have it, you can go with the newer one, but it's up to you. There isn't a massive price difference (check my first two affiliate links down below) so maybe just go with the new one.
